Full-time · Malta

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Junior QA Engineer to join our fast-growing tech team in Malta. In this role, you will help safeguard the quality and reliability of our trading platform in a highly regulated and performance-driven environment.

You will work closely with developers, product owners, and operations to ensure our systems meet the highest standards in the industry. As part of an agile team, you will test complex software products, investigate issues in depth, and contribute to building a robust and scalable QA process. This is a great opportunity to grow into a skilled QA professional while learning about energy trading and modern microservice architectures.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and maintain test cases for complex software systems in a microservices-based environment.

  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing of new features and system improvements.

  • Investigate bugs thoroughly, reproduce issues, and document findings in a clear and structured manner.

  • Collaborate closely with developers and product teams to clarify requirements and ensure test coverage.

  • Contribute to improving and structuring our QA processes and testing frameworks.

  • Support the transition towards increased test automation and CI/CD integration.

  • Ensure our platform meets high performance, reliability, and quality standards expected in energy trading.

We have three offices, one in Valletta, one in Amsterdam and one in Novi Sad. We do many company events and have fun building the ETPA platform together. This role is office based with the opportunity to work from home one day per week. Please note that we do not offer relocation as part of the hiring process.

ABOUT YOU

  • A BSc degree in a technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar).

  • 1+ year of experience testing complex software products.

  • Strong attention to detail and a thorough, investigative mindset.

  • Passion for product quality and quality assurance.

  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working.

  • Fluency in English and strong communication skills.

  • Creative self-starter who can design and execute structured test approaches independently.

  • Ability to report QA findings clearly and systematically.

  • Willingness and motivation to learn automated testing and relevant programming languages.

  • Ability to commute to Etpa’s office in Malta.

  • A valid work permit for the European Union.

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of test automation concepts and commonly used tools (e.g. Cucumber, Jest or similar).

  • Experience writing automated test scripts integrated in CI/CD pipelines.

  • Familiarity with Java or JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Experience with end-to-end testing in microservice environments.

  • Basic understanding of (energy) trading or financial systems is a plus.

Our current portfolio of exchanges includes Intraday (XBID), Congestion management (GOPACS), and day-after trading (EX-Post). We are rapidly expanding our geography and products, introducing XBID to Germany, Austria, and Belgium this year.

At Etpa, we are committed to playing a pivotal role in the Energy Transition. Our platform lowers the barriers to entry for players in the spot market, allowing participants of all sizes to participate, thereby improving the economic feasibility of renewable assets and the uptake of low-emission generation technologies.
