Junior Power Market Specialist
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Junior Power Market Specialist to join our Power Markets team. You report directly to the CEO.
You represent Etpa in the industry working groups where NEMOs and TSOs run and develop European market coupling: the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) and the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC). You also work on high-priority projects, such as our expansion into new bidding zones, together with external partners and our own teams, so that they go live on time.
It is a role for a recent graduate or early-career professional with some background in energy who wants to learn European electricity markets from the inside. Previous experience in power markets is useful. A sharp mind, a structured way of working and the ability to learn quickly matter more.
Your responsibilities
Industry working groups
Represent Etpa in industry working groups with TSOs and other NEMOs, such as those of the Market Coupling Steering Committee (MCSC) and the NEMO Committee.
Prepare for these meetings, represent Etpa’s position, and coordinate the follow-up internally.
Track changes to market coupling procedures, regulation and operational requirements, and translate what they mean for Etpa into actions for our teams.
Expansion into new markets
Own expansion projects into new bidding zones and markets, from due diligence to go-live.
Research the market design, regulation, and technical and legal requirements of each new market, including NEMO and clearing (CCP) arrangements.
Coordinate with TSOs, NEMOs, clearing houses and other parties on accession, testing and go-live readiness.
Working with Tech and Operations
Help product owners turn market rules and new product designs into clear functional requirements.
Work with our Tech and Operations teams through implementation, testing and roll-out, and keep procedures and documentation for new markets up to date.
ABOUT YOU
0 to 2 years of experience, and a master’s degree, for example in economics, economic policy, engineering or energy.
Some background in energy, through your studies, a thesis, an internship or work, and a real interest in European electricity markets.
Experience running projects, at work or during your studies. You plan ahead, keep several things moving at once and follow through.
You learn fast. You can read a detailed procedure or regulation and work out what it means in practice.
Clear communication, in writing and in person, and the confidence to speak up in a room of experienced industry representatives.
Fluency in English, ability to work from our Amsterdam office, and a valid work permit for the European Union.
Nice to have:
Experience at a TSO, an exchange or an energy trading company.
Knowledge of SDAC, SIDC or flow-based market coupling, or of European energy regulation such as CACM and REMIT.
Another European language, such as Dutch, German or French.
